Lakeside Medical Centre Tests Exciting New Electronic Prescription Service

We are the first practice in Wales to use the new Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) before it is introduced nationally.

This is an exciting new NHS Wales service. For patients who currently use Wellington Road Pharmacy, instead of writing out paper prescriptions, we can send your prescription(s) electronically.

At the moment, while the service is being tested, electronic prescriptions can only be sent to Wellington Road Pharmacy. This will change as more pharmacies begin to use the service.

If you usually get your medication from Wellington Road Pharmacy and you would like to use the EPS service, please tell the staff there or at the surgery. You do not need a computer, laptop, or smartphone to do this.

Your care and treatment will not change in any way. The only difference will be the way your prescription(s) are sent to the pharmacy if you choose to use the new electronic prescription service.

With EPS, you will need to order your repeat prescriptions seven days in advance and allow an extra two to three days over bank holidays.

If you choose this new service:

  • Your GP will not give you a paper prescription but will send it electronically to the pharmacy.
  • If you have a telephone or video consultation, you will not have to visit the practice to collect a paper prescription as it will be sent electronically to the pharmacy.

What are the benefits of EPS?

  • Electronic prescriptions are free and more convenient.
  • You won’t need to visit the practice to pick up your prescription.
  • You don’t need a computer or smartphone to use e-prescriptions.
  • Electronic prescriptions will help to reduce the amount of paper we use, which will help the environment.

Is EPS reliable, secure, and confidential?

Yes. Your electronic prescription will only be seen by the same people in the practice and the pharmacy that see your paper prescription now.
